What questions do I ask when looking for a new vet?

• What do my neighbour and friends think of the local vets?
• Who would my friends recommend?
• Can I go and visit the surgery and have a look around?
• Is the practice happy to let me have a guided tour?
• Are the staff friendly and approachable?
• Is it easy to speak to the vets and nurses?
• Is the out of hours service provided by the practices normal vets and nurses?
• Is the out of hours service provided on site or will I have to travel?
• Does the vet practice have good facilities?
• Does the practice run a laboratory service?
• Is the practice inspected by the Royal College Inspectors?
• Are there separate dog and cat wards / kennels?
• Are Isolation Wards available?
• How easy is it to make an appointment, and how long will the vet see me for?
• Can I register with the vet practice?
